Tooth Extractions at Our Skilled Family Dental Practice
What is the process of extracting a tooth?
A tooth extraction is the procedure commonly known as "pulling a tooth."
Although the teeth that come in after we lose our set of baby teeth are
meant to last a lifetime, this is not always the case. In fact, there
are a number of reasons why a tooth extraction may be necessary. Our family
dental practice is prepared to perform tooth extractions for any patient,
regardless of why they need the procedure in the first place.
Such reasons for a tooth extraction may include, but are not limited to:
The mouth is too crowded: in order to properly align the teeth, or for a tooth to break through
the gum, a tooth or teeth may need to be removed to make room in the mouth.
Infection: if tooth decay or damage reaches all the way to the pulp (the center of
the tooth that contains the nerves and blood vessels) bacteria can enter
and cause infection. Extraction may be necessary to prevent the spread
Risk of infection: if your immune system is compromised, the risk of infection may be enough
cause to pull the tooth.
Periodontal (gum) disease: if this infection of the tissues and bones that surround the teeth have
caused loosening of the teeth, it may be necessary to remove the tooth / teeth.
We'll ensure your procedure is a painless process!
If you are having one tooth removed, you will be given an injection of
a local anesthetic to numb the area surrounding where the tooth will be
pulled. When this is the case, you can
relax and enjoy a movie of your choice while we complete your procedure. If your procedure involves
more than one tooth being pulled or if your tooth is impacted, you may
need a strong general anesthetic. This will prevent you from feeling pain,
and allow you to sleep during the procedure.
There is no need to be afraid if you need a tooth extraction. With
over 25 years of experience in the industry, we know exactly what it takes to provide our patients
with a comfortable environment, while ensuring their procedure goes as
smoothly as possible.
Your comfort is our first priority!
